Instructors in Londonderry will soon be teaching one of the most beautiful artforms in the world.
Bonsai Bar will be hosting a class in how to make a bonsai tree. Bonsai is the East Asian, specifically Japanese, art of growing miniature trees in containers, a practice that was adapted from the Chinese art of penjing. The purpose of working with bonsai is mostly pleasure, as the trees produce neither medicine nor food. Instead, the viewer can enjoy contemplating the tree, while the grower has the pleasure of creating a beautiful object.
Bonsai Bar promises the event will be a great deal of fun. Experts will teach attendees the basic techniques and skills necessary to create these trees. They will also be on hand to explain core concepts of the art and provide guidance as students design, pot, and prune their own bonsai trees.
Attendees will be able to choose a pot and a Dwarf Jade (Portulacaria Afra) tree, and the organizers will lend students the materials and tools they need. The Dwarf Jade has been chosen specifically because they are hardy and easy for even beginning gardeners to keep alive.
Bonsai Bar experts will be coaching students to make tiny trees at 603 Brewery & Beer Hall, located at 42 Main Street in Londonderry. The event is scheduled to run from 6.00 pm until 8.00 pm on Thursday, March 23. To help participants at events like this, organizers can choose to use flyer printing to create instruction sheets.
