Youngsville area parks and greenways protected

A Master Services Agreement (MSA) and funding of $500,000 enables the city of Raleigh to undertake an Invasive Species Program in its parks. This could hold significant implications for conservation efforts in the nearby community of Youngsville.

Invasive species are those that spread quickly and harm native wildlife and plants. With this funding, the city can hire expert contractors to remove invasive plants in the greenways and parks of the city.

By the end of this fiscal year, more than 90 acres of land in 28 greenways and parks will have been supported by the MSA. Among the benefits of these projects is that new usable outdoor spaces have been created that were once overgrown; there are cleaner sightlines which make parks and greenways safer; native plants and wildlife that were being pushed out are better protected; and more involvement from the community has been created with new volunteer opportunities, educational materials, and Signs.

Local Print shops can help raise awareness about such community improvements by producing Flyers, Posters, and other printed promotional materials.

Continued required treatment of these invasive species will be needed in the upcoming years. Additional support from the MSA will enable Raleigh Parks to maintain the areas already restored, expand into new locations, and protect the investments since the city began this program over 10 years ago.
