Bob McCreary, class of 1961, has donated $20 million to Wake Forest University to elevate the competitive trajectory of the university’s football team.
This move may reinforce the momentum established in the first season of head coach Jake Dickert, who enabled the university to return to the national spotlight this year. This might encourage more students from nearby Youngsville interested in college athletics to attend the university.
This donation will advance key football excellence initiatives and fund 10 athletic scholarships, which will strengthen the resources required to compete for championships and expand opportunities for student athletes.
The McCreary Triple Double Challenge: A $100 Million Initiative will also be launched by the university in tandem with this donation. The goal of the initiative is to create excellence in sports and scholarships and develop a competitive infrastructure that will elevate the future of Wake Forest in the new year of college athletics.
As the name suggests, the challenge is to raise $100m, with $50m for current-use scholarships so that exceptional student-athletes across all sports can be attracted, retained, and supported by the university. The other $50m would be for a sports excellence fund that will enhance the development of players, mental wellbeing, sports performance, and leadership programming, among other areas.
News of such donations and their accompanying initiatives can be made known throughout a college campus and neighboring communities with flyer printing.
