The Children’s Hospital of WakeMed Health and Hospital has launched a streaming camera system at its neonatal intensive care unit in Raleigh. Residents of Youngsville are now able to take advantage of this service.
The system, called NicView, enables families to keep connected to their newborns and can watch them at any time when they are not able to physically come to the hospital. Program Coordinator of the WakeMed NICU, Sharon Hershkowitz, said that there are currently 19 functional cameras at the Raleigh facility, with plans to expand that to 60 cameras throughout the three hospitals in the WakeMed system.
The service is costing WakeMed approximately $140,000 and is being funded by the WakeMed Foundation. Optional and free to parents, it is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Flyers with more information about such services and their benefits for families are often produced with the help of local Print shops.
Among the comprehensive services at WakeMed Children’s Hospital are emergency, urgent, and primary care and pediatric specialties, including its Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). WakeMed has pediatric specialist and subspecialist practices on Clayton, Apex, and Raleigh and children’s services in Wake Forest, Raleigh, Garner, and Brier Creek, among other neighborhood locations. It is the only provider of pediatric inpatient care provider in Wake County.
