Greenway expansion begins in Youngsville area

The ground has been broken on the expansion of outdoor recreation opportunities in Wake Forest with Phase 3 of the Dunn Creek Greenway. This will likely be of interest to outdoor enthusiasts in nearby Youngsville.

This phase will add 1.8 miles to the existing greenway network and extend it from where it ends north of the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway and NC 98 Bypass and connect it to Ailey Young Park. It will also connect with pathways that also exist in the Traditions neighborhood.

The project will include three footbridges that are placed to cross streams and will use advanced Permatrak systems. The walkways are designed to withstand the test of time and to reduce slippery conditions after a rainstorm and in the long run will require less maintenance.

Local Print shops can provide more information about such projects and their designs with Flyers, Brochures, and Booklets.

The contractor is Crowder Construction, and the project is funded by the Bond Referendum in 2022. It is part of the efforts of the town to provide more outdoor spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy and enhance the local infrastructure. It is a result of support from the community with local funding from taxes being put to use for everyone’s benefit.

The project is expected to be completed in late spring 2026. This timeline may change depending on weather conditions and other unforeseeable factors.
