Non-profit seeks volunteers in Kalispell area

Volunteers are needed this summer by the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation (BMWF) to help with trail maintenance on the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. Residents of Kalispell looking for a summer volunteer activity might be interested in working on these projects.

BMWF provides camping equipment for the group, tools, all meals, and an experienced leader to supervise the project. Volunteers do not need to have any prior camping or trail work experience but do need to bring their own camping equipment and be willing to work hard and learn. Volunteer packers and their mules and horses carry the heavy loads in Backpacks along the backcountry trips.

More information about such projects and their requirements is often provided with flyer printing.

There are 30 trail projects by BMWF available to the public. Projects which need more work to be done include Straight Creek trail in the Scapegoat Wilderness; Cabin Creek trail out of Gibson Reservoir; and the Deer Creek trail in the Benchmark area. There is also construction on the turnpike on Gateway Creek near Sabido Cabin and on Foolhen Trail near Danaher Meadows as well as a Community Science trip on Upper Bartlett Creek.

Some short-term volunteer trail days are also being offered where volunteers can work for one or two days instead of having to commit to a whole project.
