Three new facility plans have been approved by the city councilors of Kalispell.
These will update the development and assessment plans of the city wastewater collection system facility, water facility, and the advanced wastewater treatment plant. All three plans have also been integrated with the stormwater facility plan of 2025 into the new city land use plan.
The water plan defines current water use patterns and water rights and projects future needs for water. It also evaluates the performance of the existing water distribution system. Once the risk and quality of the water mains are assessed, a plan is required for capital improvements for infrastructure when they are needed.
The plan for the treatment facilities and the wastewater collection system includes recommendations to modify several lift stations to meet the future flows of wastewater and to upsize specific sections of the gravity main.
Councilor Kyle Waterman noted that the city has a facility that was built in the 1990s although it is a very strong one. He added that he believes the plan clearly outlines what the city is looking for regarding some regulations, but it also encourages the city to keep moving forward to keep up with its growth.
