Major road construction project underway in Kalispell

Construction has resumed on the West Reserve Drive project in Kalispell.

This project is being carried out in partnership with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), Schellinger Construction, DJ&A Engineering, and the city of Kalispell. It includes expanding the road on West Reserve Drive between Whitefish Stage Road and Hutton Ranch Road from three to five lanes, with a center lane for turning and a shared use path. The intersections with Whitefish Stage Road and Hutton Ranch Road on West Reserve Drive will also have new traffic signals, dedicated turn lanes, and concrete surfaces.

The current traffic signals at these intersections will remain active until the dedicated turn lanes are completed. There may be delays of up to 15 minutes at these locations during construction.

The hours of construction will be from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, and completion is expected in November. There will be reduced speed limits and configuration changes to the lanes during construction. Local Print shops often assist in spreading the word about such road improvements throughout the community with mailers, Flyers, and other printed materials.

Missoula Acting District Administrator of the MDT, John Schmidt, said that this project is much needed for the Flathead Valley. He added that several projects will be taking place in the area over the next few years, and everyone’s patience is greatly appreciated as the department works to make progress in a timely and safe manner.
