A property in the Lower Valley of Kalispell may be set to become the home of a detention facility.
A preliminary purchase agreement has been approved by the Flathead County Commissioners to purchase the property in question. The land spans 114.85 acres and is located at the junction of the Kalispell Bypass and US Highway 93 on Snowline Lane. The purchase price was $3.9 million.
The property consists of several structures, including a garage for three trucks, a house, a hay barn, and a shop building. It has several industrial and few residential neighbors. It is zoned for suburban agricultural and is bisected by Ashley Creek. When sites such as this are purchased and developed, banner printing can be used to inform residents of how the land will be used.
Discussions have centered on using the property for a septage facility, as it is close to the existing Kalispell municipal treatment plant. Randy Brodehl, a commissioner, said that the agreement to purchase the property is an exploratory agreement and not tied any stated future development. The commissioners have indicated a desire to use the property for a detention facility that has been long in the planning process.
Commissioner Paul Homquist said that the commissioners are looking to increase the capacity of the current detention facility in the county. He added that the property has a lot of potential for this purpose and the public is welcome to hear about the commissioners’ plans and provide their feedback and concerns.
