St. Ann to potentially become home for the county

The St. Louis County Council has decided to advance negotiations to relocate the headquarters of St. Louis County to Northwest Plaza in St. Ann.

This move could potentially bring hundreds of residents of the county to St. Ann, as well as over 400 jobs. Businesses and many others would also benefit from this move, no doubt seeking Stationery printers to create new Letterheads, Business Cards, and other related materials.

Northwest Plaza in St. Ann was selected by the St. Louis County Council over Brentwood’s Meridian Building. The county had to leave its headquarters in Clayton as the city’s fire code required sprinklers on each floor. In addition, there were some expensive maintenance issues related to the property.

The Brockhaus Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship at Saint Louis University, Jerome Katz, said this location in St. Ann would also attract more senior citizens. He said that the Northwest Plaza has little traffic and free parking, so it may attract many other new population types as well. Amy Poelker, mayor of St. Ann, hopes that this will bring an economic boost to north St. Louis County, and can help neighboring communities like Maryland Heights and Bridgeton.

Officials from the county are currently planning on a lease of five to ten years, and then will decide whether to make St. Ann its permanent headquarters or move to a new location.
