A concert titled “Choral Elements Fire” will be performed by the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus next month. It will take place at the Second Baptist Church on Clayton Road in Richmond Heights, and may be of interest to residents of nearby St. Ann.
The Chamber Chorus opens a season built around the theme of “fire” with Prometheus by Sergey Taneyev. This piece, which is being performed for the first time in the St. Louis area, was inspired by the Greek titan who brought fire to humanity. Taneyev completed his score more than a century ago, but Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds has only just finished his newest work for the singers—a set of poems by Sara Teasdale, a native of St. Louis native whose writing has long captivated him.
This new music will be set against a group of Renaissance madrigals that use fire as a metaphor for the intense passions of human relationships. The program also features two canzones by Baroque master Alessandro Scarlatti, paired with German lieder by 19th century Anglo Czech prodigy Agnes Tyrrell. These selections reflect the commitment of the Chamber Chorus to championing women composers and presenting both newly created and long neglected music from around the world. Such concerts can be promoted throughout a region with flyer printing.
The concert will be on Sunday, October 4, beginning at 3:00 pm.
