Veterans United continues popular Columbia Christmas lights tradition

Veterans United Home Loans (VU) announced that the popular Bight Holiday Lights display will be open to the public again this year. The announcement is a change from VU’s release in 2025 that said it would be the last year for the display.

Bight Holiday Lights continues to be a free drive-thru event in what is now its seventh year. Over one million LED lights illuminate multiple themed displays, which feature a variety of Christmas scenes and images.

The event has been popular with residents of Columbia as well as visitors ever since its debut during the COVID-19 pandemic. VU developed the light display as a safe way to enjoy the holiday season while following state and federal mandates. The organization estimates that more than 100,000 vehicles have driven through the display.

An estimated 1000 cars drive through the Bright Holiday Lights display each evening, which runs from 7:00 to 10:30 PM Monday through Friday, and from 5:30 to 10:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Small gifts have been part of the event for each car in the past, with organizers able to take advantage of Promotional Products to enhance the experience for visitors.

Reservations aren’t needed, but the VU team advises people to be prepared for a long wait during peak times. To reduce waiting time, visitors can come by after 8:30 PM, especially on weeknights. This event will be available from December 10 through December 20 at 550 Veterans United Drive.
