Small businesses get a chance to shine

Small Business Week in Columbia is coming up fast and, to help celebrate this annual occurrence, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring several events, all of which will lead up to the Small Business of the Year luncheon at the end of the week.

Several businesses in the city were nominated for business of the year and five finalists were chosen. Each finalist must host a seminar during the week telling Chamber members about the history of their organization and, in short, trying to prove to the judges why they deserve to win the award. These seminars will be the deciding factor in which company will be announced as the winner at the awards ceremonies.

Columbia printing companies are sometimes asked to help publicize upcoming events like this one. The finalists for the award may decide to invest in printed materials, such as Brochures and Booklets to hand out to those who attend their seminar, just to remind them of what was said and keep it fresh in their mind.

The Small Business of the Year luncheon is taking place at the Tiger Hotel on May 9 beginning at 11:30 am. Tickets are $20 for Columbia Chamber of Commerce members and $25 for non-members. Contact Brenna McDermott for more information about the awards or about Small Business Week, which runs May 5 - 9.
