Princeton residents will be happy to know that the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MNPUC) has approved a plan to connect to the renewable energy sources located in the southwest part of the state to Sherburne County.
This is particularly important as plans are in the works to shut down Sherburne County’s Sherco coal-fired power plant.
A certificate of need was approved on April 11 for the Minnesota Energy Connection Project as well as a route permit for the installation of a high-voltage power line to connect Lyon County to Sherburne County.
Keeping the public informed as to new public services, improvements to infrastructure and changes in policies can be handled in a number of ways including the use of brochure printing services.
The installation route, which will be approximately 174 miles in length, will stretch between the Lower Sioux Indian Community and the city of Franklin. From there, the 345-kilovolt transmission line will travel west, passing south of the communities of Lucan and Redwood Falls. Once in Lyon County it will continues along Amiret’s east side and concludes with a planned for substation in proximity to Garvin.
A public review and engagement process preceded and contributed to PUC’s decision regarding the project during which feedback was collected from stakeholders, including local governments, landowners, and tribal representatives.
According to Randy Fordice, an Xcel spokesperson, finalization of the project’s plans are underway with transmission line construction slated to start in early 2026.
