Contractor chosen for Zimmerman interchange project

Those traveling south of Princeton for work or leisure will be pleased to know that the county is investing in an interchange at County Road 4 and Highway 169 intersection.

Ames Construction submitted the winning bid of $44 million for the project, which was approved earlier this month by the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners. However, the deal is contingent on the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Office of Civil Rights giving its approval.

The use of professional printing services for business proposals, including official bids for a project, provides a more polished appearance thereby carrying more weight and increasing the chance of success.

Four bids were received for the project with Ames Construction submitting the lowest. Bids ranged from $48,551,570 to $44,390,385. All the bids were under the estimate projected by the county engineer of $55,629,366.

Ames Construction is experienced in this type of project having recently completed the “169 Redefine”, the Elk River interchange and highway project. According to Andrew Witter, the County Public Works director was finished on time and under budget. Moreover, the company is presently employed on interchange projects in Ramsey on Highway 10.

Witter indicated to the county commissioners that he anticipates that the Zimmerman Interchange project will get underway the day after Labor Day and be finished by the end of 2026.
