Training session offered for Fairmont educators

Walking and biking can be easy and fun ways for children and their whole family to get out and enjoy some fresh air and exercise. An event planned for Fairmont educators will introduce them to the ‘Walk! Bike! Fun! Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety’ component that will be added to the local curriculum.

The workshop will provide information and tips to teachers and other professionals about implementing the program, and the goal is for it to be both fun and informative. The participants will even be taking to the streets for a bike ride, and are advised to wear comfortable clothing.

Attendees at the training session will be treated to a light breakfast before the morning kicks off, and the training will start at 8:00 am sharp. Lunch will be provided, and both bikes and helmets will be available so that no one will need to bring along their own. Continuing education credits may be provided to teachers and paraprofessionals that take part, and all of this is free of charge.

The organizers of the event noted that those who take part will be able to borrow balance, two-wheel, and adaptive bikes for use when they teach the program to their students. Local Print shops can provide manuals and other learning materials for this type of event, as well as custom designed certificates of completion that can be given to the students.

The training session will be held on October 4. Fairmont Elementary School, located at 714 Victoria Street, will be the venue for the occasion.
