Fairmont workshop to introduce emerald ash borers

An insect pest has been found in Fairmont, and the city is offering residents spaces in a workshop that will address the issue.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) will be running field workshops in the area, and they will be held outdoors. It will introduce the participants to affected trees so they can learn for themselves what to look for, and it is free to get involved.

As the activity will take place outdoors, everyone should dress for the weather. Participants will be taught about the life cycles of emerald ash borers, as well as their ecology, the impact they have on trees, and why early detection and control are important. They will receive tips for what to do should one of their own trees become infested with the insects.

Attendees with disabilities are welcome to take part, but are asked to contact the organizer ahead of time if they require an accommodation.

Keeping the community informed about local issues is often one of the roles taken on by city government. Publications that provide information to the public can be prepared by a local brochure printing company, and they may include full color photos and otter graphics.

This introduction to emerald ash borers will be on offer at Fairmont Heritage Acres. It will be offered on dates throughout March, with further details available on the city’s calendar.
