Fairmont area quilters offered seats in upcoming class series

A handmade quilt can be a real work of art, passed down from one generation to another, and the attendees in workshop series planned for the Fairmont area will be crafting one they can treasure for a long time to come.

The Old Alley Quilt Shop provides area quilters with supplies as well as classes for all levels of ability. One of these is its upcoming Alaska BOM series, where the project will be broken down into five parts, with one class hosted each month.

In the first month, the group will review color and fabric choice so they can purchase materials for the next class. These will be brought to the next session, which will be focused on cutting out and organizing the quilt blocks. The third class will assemble three block types. The final assembly, including instructions of how to create a border will be shared in the fourth workshop, and the final instalment will see the registrants bring in their completed quilts to show off to the other learners. This activity is intended for those with an intermediate level of sewing skill.

The listing for the occasion explained that the registration fee is $15, and students will need to purchase a pattern and also fabric, both of which will be available on site. Printed directions for a crating project can be prepared by Stationery printers.

The Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn has made arrangements to begin this series of classes on January 21. The final one will take place on May 20.
