The Wood Lake Nature Center in Richfield, Minnesota will host a conservation project this November called the Fall Buckthorn Bust.
The aim of this initiative is to stop the spread of invasive species, which are those considered dangerous as they interrupt the development of indigenous flora and fauna. In some cases, they can destroy a species completely.
This event's focus will be on the European buckthorn, a particularly troublesome plant. The organizers intend to have them removed from the Nature Center's forest. Residents are invited to learn to identify the buckthorn, and discover how to safely remove them.
The project is being led by the Richfield Sustainability Commission, which is the branch of the Richfield City Council sanctioned to undertake initiatives that move sustainability forward. The Nature Center forest functions as a walking trail for families in the Richfield area. It also provides educational programs for interested residents. There are children’s and adults’ classes held at the Center's building.
The Fall Buckthorn Bust is free for all to attend. Attendees can expect refreshments around a bonfire after the event has ended. Poster printing can be a great way for event participants to gain exposure for this event.
The event will be held at the Wood Lake Nature Center on Sunday, November 14. The Wood Lake Nature Center can be found at 6710 Lake Shore Drive, Richfield, Minnesota 55423. It begins at 2:00 pm and ends at 4:30 pm.
