Edina to hold Juneteenth family-friendly celebration

The City of Edina and community partners will be holding a festival as a celebration of the Juneteenth holiday this summer.

The holiday celebrates the end of slavery during the Civil War and has recently been recognized nationwide. The Edina festival will look to celebrate the Twin Cities area’s African-American community and promote community among people from all backgrounds. Participating organizations include the Hennepin County Joint Community Policing Partnership and Edina Anti-Racism Collective.

The event will include performances from local artists including Chantel Sings of local radio station KMOJ, SDOT and VYUS Sance Crew. There will be family-friendly activities including artwork, giveaways, and a live DJ to interact with in between performances. Visitors can sample local cuisine from food trucks and connect with local businesses and community organizations through resource tables.

Edina has celebrated Juneteenth with official events since 2022, including activities like book readings and jazz performances. Cultural festivals and holiday celebrations like this often use methods like banner printing and signage to set the stage and recognize local supporting organizations. Advertising for the event celebrates the opportunity to make a connection:

“Celebrate community, culture, and freedom at the 2026 Juneteenth Celebration [..]. All are welcome to gather and celebrate the holiday in community.”

The 2026 Edina Juneteenth Celebration will take place on the afternoon of June 19 at Centennial Lanes Park.
