A popular municipal event, the Edina Pumpkin Smash & Bash will return this November, encouraging people to dispose of their leftover pumpkins in a fun way.
The event invites visitors to roll their used pumpkin down a hill, or drop it from a height to see if they can hit a target, and more importantly to watch it go splat. Edina residents with squashes or other gourds can roll or bowl them to similar effect. The smashed pumpkins will be gathered and composted through Edina’s Organics Recycling Program.
The event site will also feature festive music and dancing. Visitors are encouraged to wear their costumes one more time for the year, to go along with the theme of recycling and reusing. Pumpkins that have been decorated with paint, glitter or stickers are not eligible, and all other artificial decorations should be removed ahead of time.
The Smash & Bash event has become a staple of the Halloween season in Edina, typically held the Saturday morning after Halloween. Community events like this often use methods such as social media and flyer printing to help get people interested and involved. The Edina Parks & Recreation holds this and other events throughout the fall season to promote recycling and community spirit.
The 2025 Pumpkin Smash & Bash will take place on the morning of November 1 at Countryside Park in Edina.
