Edina art org announces fall classes

The Edina Art Center has announced a series of special standalone classes and workshops this September aiming to pique participants’ creativity and welcome them to fall, with two seasonal events on the same day.

The fall theme will be highlighted in a Watercolor Workshop where aspiring painters will best learn how to create an autumn landscape, led by instructor Mary Helfinger. The class aims to support all levels of experience, with suggested materials including watercolor paper, a palette or tray, and multiple brush sizes.

The Center will also be hosting a “Cupcakes & Canvas” event aimed at families. Participants will receive equipment and make paintings based on the theme of “Pumpkin Patch Gnome.” The artists can then enjoy one of the eponymous cupcakes while their work dries.

In addition to these two events, there will be regularly scheduled classes and meetings hosted throughout the fall, such as the monthly First Saturday Art Lab and biweekly Art Cart events. The Center, which recently celebrated its 50th birthday, typically allows Edina residents to register a week earlier than other potential students. Attendees at events like this often move on to big creative projects, whether in painting or other media like banner printing.

“Watercolor Workshop” and “Cupcakes & Canvas” will both take place on Saturday, September 27 at the Edina Art Center. Participants must register in advance.
