Charity hockey showdown to return to Edina

The Moose Winter Classic will be back in Edina this March, aiming to raise money to help fight Rett Syndrome.

The tournament will be made up of twenty amateur teams, with three divisions of 4-6 teams each based on skill. There will also be a mixed-skill “Goons4Good” division intended for fun play, and potentially a women’s division based on the number of registrants. Each team will play four full 60-minute games across the weekend. Individuals can also sign up and be placed into teams for a separate division. The tournament is sponsored by TCR Moose Hockey, a long-standing recreational hockey association in Minnesota which promotes a number of charitable initiatives.

Registered teams and players will donate money towards the Midwest Rett Syndrome Foundation, which funds research into cure and treatment into the neurological disorder. The event has raised over $125, 000 over its history, with each of the most recent two editions raising over $20, 000. Charitable sporting events like this often use methods like brochure printing and public talks to help raise awareness of the good cause they benefit. Hockey fans are also welcome to come and observe the action, with beer and seltzer provided by event sponsors.

The 2025 Moose Winter Classic will take place from March 14 to 16 at the Minnesota Made Ice Centre in Edina.
