Unique event restarts in Chanhassen

A popular monthly event is restarting in Chanhassen.

Cars and Caves is back on track for 2022, and will hold its first show of the year soon. The “cars” part of the show revolves around autos of all kinds, but particularly those that are unusual such as collectors’ cars, custom cars, classic models, and exotic cars. However, the cars are only part of the fun.

Cars and Caves is held at the Chanhassen AutoPlex, which is a garage condo complex that is in private hands. Owners have “garage condominiums” where they store their vehicles. They also use the spaces to work on the vehicles.

At the event, visitors will see the residents’ cars including Ferraris and Corvettes, as well as the van from “Scooby Doo,” the Green Hornet, the Batmobile, and the armored truck featured in the film “Mission Impossible III.”

The condo garages are often used to showcase auto memorabilia, and some are themed according to the owner’s interests, and many are open for viewing. Events like this bring people with similar interests together, providing an opportunity to exchange Business Cards.

The event is free, but each is held to benefit a different charity. Although it is not required, visitors can donate to that day’s cause. Cars and Caves events have raised over $20,000 for charities such as Shriners Hospitals and the Ronald McDonald Houses.

The first event of 2022 is set for April 30, and will continue the last Saturday of each month through September.
