Minnesota State Fair has biggest ever year

It may have become one of the biggest events in the Midwest, but this year the Minnesota State Fair outdid even itself.

The celebration of the Gopher State's agriculture and beyond recorded its highest ever attendance, with over two million visitors attending over the course of the fair's 12 days. Contributing to this success was the shuttle service running to the fair from 34 parking lots around the state, including at the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota Transit Authority, and the Twin Cities area, calling in at suburbs like Chanhassen.

The event featured a number of food and livestock showcases and competitions, with standout youths able to gain scholarships through the 4-H program. More artistically-minded Minnesotans could display their talents in events such as the talent show and local art exhibit The fairgrounds accommodated dozens of small vendors looking to capitalize on the opportunity. Some may have slipped a business card or promotional product into baskets hoping to gain long-term customers.

The fair also featured a concert series throughout its duration, culminating in a ‘80s-themed show headlined by Culture Club and the B-52s. Food stands and carts provided an assortment of food ranging from hot dogs and other fair staples, to more exotic cuisine.

The fair may have drawn to a close, but the fairgrounds will continue to host events throughout the year, such as upcoming horse shows and Minnesota Comic-Con.
