Freezing fun in Chanhassen

An annual event is coming up to celebrate winter and even get people outdoors to enjoy the day.

Chanhassen holds a February Festival every year, and this will be the 30th time the event has taken place. The location is Lake Ann Park, where attendees will find free activities for the family, door prizes, beverage and food concessions, and the highlight of the day – an ice fishing contest. Prizes will total more than $6,000, awarded to the anglers who pull in the biggest fish by weight, no matter its species, provided it is legal to catch that type. If there is a tie, the person who caught the fish first will be given the higher prize. Only one prize will be awarded per person.

Each angler may buy only two tickets, and there will be only one ticket allowed to each fishing hole. In addition, organizers warn that there is to be no sharing of fish between contestants. If an individual wants to enter the contest, he or she must have personally caught the fish they are entering.

Holes will be pre-drilled, and enclosures or sheds will not be permitted in the fishing area, though anglers may use depth finders. Underwater cameras are permitted until the contest starts.

The February Festival is scheduled for Saturday, February 4. The ice fishing contest will run from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create signage that will stand up to outdoor use.
