Gwen Matthews is the featured artist at the upcoming “Night Before Easter” show at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. The event is a concert of show tunes, contemporary and traditional gospel songs, and popular music. The variety of music audiences will hear can be found in the list of artists whose work will be performed, which includes The Temptations, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, James Taylor, Mahalia Jackson, Carrie Underwood, Josh Groban, and The Isley Brothers.
Matthews is a native of Chicago who performed with Passage, a Twin Cities group, in the 1970s. She also recorded jingles for major corporations such as General Mills and Northwest Airlines. Her versatility found her working in a jazz/soul group along with Bruce Henry and Debbie Duncan.
She also worked in Los Angeles for 11 years working with major stars such as Kenny Rogers, Philip Bailey, and Stevie Wonder. A favorite at European jazz festivals, she gives voice lessons and performs as part of the Synergy group.
A comment says:
“[Her] voice is rich and funky. Her music is full of lilting melodies, soulful rhythms and often is interjected with some jovial scatting. She moves your spirit.”
The “Night Before Easter” show is set for Saturday, April 8. Events like this can be advertised successfully when organizers use poster printing to create attractive artwork.
