Locals unleash their inner athlete

Burnsville residents can head to nearby Bloomington to participate in the ‘Athleta Unleash the SHE’ 5K and 10K taking place in a few weeks.

The event was created to raise awareness and funds in the battle against ovarian cancer. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance.

The open course will have mile markers and water stations every few miles. It is likely a Print company was asked to create start and finish line Banners.

After the race, there will be door prizes, including clothing and gift cards. Winners must be present to claim their prize. Awards will be distributed to the top overall finishers along with the top three female runners in each age group.

Registration costs $47 for the womae’s 10K and 5K, or $50 on race day. The coed, untimed 5K costs $37 or $40 on race day. Online registration ends on October 6 at 11:59 pm. Registration includes a finisher’s medal, a race bag, and a souvenir bib.

Prerace packet pick-up will take place on October 8 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and on October 10 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm at Athleta in the Mall of America, located on 60 East Broadway.

The 10K race kicks off on October 11 at 9:00 am, followed by the 5K at 9:30 am. Race day registration takes place from 6:30 am until 8:45 am. The event will be held at Mount Normandale Lake Park.
