Burnsville has issued an update on its dynamic city hall expansion project, and also outlined its expected future progress.

With foundation work and structural steel in place, construction on the city hall and police department expansion project is proceeding on schedule. For the remainder of 2025, residents can expect to see more grading work and increased truck traffic in the area.

The complex will gain an extra 110,000 square feet of space once construction is completed and is expected to serve the community for another 30 years. The overall aim is to relieve challenges related to limited space, as well as reduce repair costs to the overused original structure.

Construction will consist of three phases. Phase 1 (now underway) involves a City Hall addition, Phase 2 is centered on the Police Department addition, and Phase 3 will feature a remodel of the original City Hall and some work along Civic Center Parkway and the Ice Arena parking lot. The budgeted project cost is $81.26 million and is funded by utility franchise fees. Project completion is expected in 2027. Poster printing and other services from Print shops are often used to communicate commencing dates for construction.

Kraus-Anderson, a construction management company based in Minneapolis, is working with an array of contractors to complete the project. The company partners with CNH Architects, another Minnesota business based in Apple Valley.

City officials recently stated that project construction is on schedule, with framing for the City Hall addition taking shape this month. Phases 1 and 2 are expected to begin in July 2026.
