Burnsville celebrates diversity over holiday season

Families will come together for a night of celebration at Tinsel, Treats and Giving in Burnsville.

The holiday season event will be presented by the Burnsville Police Department and School District 191 Know Your Neighbor. Groups that organize community gatherings such as this often use poster printing to promote attendance at their events.

Know Your Neighbor is a program created to provide meetings and other opportunities for residents to visit with and better understand others in the community, particularly those of different cultures and ethnicities. It was started more than 12 years ago by the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District Community Education Department, which offered a class called Know Your Muslim Neighbor. Since then, a heightened community interest in learning more about diversity has led the group to organize other meetings and special activities.

The upcoming family-friendly event will include festive cookie decorating, crafts and face painting as well as photos with Santa. Charitable activities will include a winter clothing giveaway and a food pantry to provide assistance to those in need. Attendees can meet and mingle with local police officers while celebrating the holiday season. It will be a sensory-friendly event.

Tinsel, Treats and Giving will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W Burnsville Parkway. The event is free to attend.
