People from Burnsville who want to do their part to help the environment in their own little patch of the world are invited to take part in an upcoming workshop that will help them to do just that.
The Landscaping for Clean Water Workshop will teach property owners about a variety of environmentally friendly practices that they can put to use in their own yards. The topics to be discussed include choosing and using native plants, what a rain garden is and how to plant one, and undertaking landscaping projects to stabilize shorelines and prevent erosion.
Along with this, those who participate will learn more about the importance of pollinators such as bees and butterflies, and how to attract them to their garden.
The course is being offered through a partnership between Burnsville and the Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District as part of an effort to keep the state’s groundwater as clean as possible. This is achieved through such measures as minimizing pollution by installing gardens that absorb rainwater and runoff form paved over areas, preventing the erosion of shorelines, and using native plants that are well adapted to the local environment. Newsletter printing can be used to keep those who take part in seminars such as this can be abreast of the latest news in the field.
