Just as with the animals that live around Burnsville, plants have evolved an assortment of adaptations to cope with cold winters. These adaptations will be introduced as part of a guided nature hike.
A hike is set to hit the trails at Nicollet Commons, and it's free for the public to join in the activity. A representative of EcoElsa will guide the walk, pointing out species and items of interest as they go. The excursion will take about one hour, and everyone who plans on participating will need to make sure they come dressed for the weather.
During the outing, the group will discover how to identify plants in their winter dress, and they will also learn about the adaptations animals have made to survive a Burnsville winter. Any birds or wildlife that’s spotted will be discussed, and it was noted that advance registration is needed for anyone who would like to join in the hike.
