A free history presentation will be presented at the Troy Historic Village in February. History lovers in nearby Shelby Township may be interested in this presentation of their local area.
Assistant Curator at Detroit Historical Society, Billy Wall-Winkel, will be discussing “Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward.” During the summer of 1967 there were events that had a significant impact on the people of Detroit and southeast Michigan. This discussion will cover these events in an historical context and cover how an extensive project that involved the community was undertaken to address the anniversary of these events. This talk will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 4 at the Troy Historic Village on W. Wattles Road in Troy.
The Troy Historic Village will also hold a guided tour of The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. This will be a private tour and will feature the permanent collection of the museum which is entitled “Our Journey Through African American History and Culture.” This will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday February 20.
Such events are often promoted throughout a city and neighboring communities with poster printing.
These programs are related to a book written by Tiya Miles which traces how an object was handed down through three generations of Black women and is an award-winning book.
