South Portland to learn about home hydroponics

Growing fresh vegetables at home using hydroponic methods may be surprisingly simple, and a South Portland workshop will introduce these to local home horticulturalists.

Factory 3 is a local makerspace that hosts classes and workshops facilitated by subject experts, and its Hydroponic Gardening class will provide a two hour long introduction to the practice. The registration fee includes one deep water growing kit.

The attendees will be walked through the steps of setting up a small hydroponic growing system, and everyone will get a hands-on experience. They will learn how a water, oxygen and nutrient blend serves as a substitute for soil, and the plants grown using these techniques may be bigger and grow more quickly. The activity is suitable for families, but young children will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Many people are becoming more interested in growing their own food at home. A workshop gives them a chance to learn how to do so in a supportive environment where they can ask lots of questions, and handouts for a class can be prepared by a local brochure printing company.

Factory 3, which can be found at 105 Jame Street in Portland, has scheduled this introduction to growing fresh veggies at home on March 23rd and April 20th of 2024. Tickets are $125.00 per person, and they may be purchased now.
