Winter can be a tough time of the year for students who are struggling financially, and a South Portland activity will help to keep them fed.
The Empty Bowls movement gives potters and eateries an opportunity to take aim at hunger and homelessness by serving up chef made meals in handmade bowls. The funding and awareness raiser that’s in the works will be on offer at the Fort Road campus of the Southern Maine Community College, and everyone's encouraged to take part.
The campus’s culinary Arts Center Dining Room will offer views of the ocean to the diners who drop by, and they will all be treated to their choice of chili, chowder or another soup in a handcrafted bowl. The meal will be served for as long as supplies last, and while tickets may be purchased at the door, it's advised that those interested reserve their tickets early. The ingredients for each of the menu choices will be listed, there will be options for those with allergies.
When organizing a fundraiser, planners often also want to raise public awareness of their cause. A brochure printing company will be pleased to help by preparing materials that showcase how the funds raised during an activity will benefit those in need and encourage further donations.
The Captain's Cupboard food pantry will be the charity of choice for this fundraising event scheduled for this Friday, February 27th. Anyone who would like to buy a ticket can find a link to do so on its web listing.
