South Portland celebrates Bug Lights anniversary
Affectionately known to locals as “Bug Light,” the lighthouse at Bug Light Park will serve as the centerpiece for an activity hosted by the South Portland-Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club.
The community service club has organized the 150th anniversary party for the lighthouse, and all ages are on the guestlist. Showcasing the venue’s history and the role it played in shipping and navigation, it will run for four hours.
Guests at the function will be able to take in live entertainment, and there will be strolling entertainers in period costume. A variety of community service groups dedicated to preserving the light will have information tables and booths on site, and books sales, a poetry table, a story walk, and a booth set up by the U.S. Coast Guard will round out the day. Free parking is in the works, and there will be vans providing shuttle service to and from the parking area for those with disabilities.
Historically themed events celebrate a community's past, while also exploring its present and future possibilities. A poster printing company’s graphic arts team can provide in-house graphic design services, which may be helpful when building the brand for a recurring celebration.
The 150th anniversary of the Bug Light will welcome everyone on Saturday, July 26. It will run from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm.
