South Portland residents who are interested in picking up a new hobby, and those who could simply use a refresher, are welcome to sign up for a weaving workshop.
The two-day activity, which will be guided by Betsy Martin and Margaret B. Russell, will teach the fundamentals of weaving, and everyone will be able to practice their new skills by working on a project. Attendees will each be crafting a table runner. All materials, the use of a loom, and other tools are included in the ticket cost.
The facilitators will begin by introducing the registrants to the tools and other equipment weavers use, and they will also learn the terminology and what it means. Everyone will get hands-on practice using a warping board to measure their fibers, and they will dress a table loom so they can start their runner. There will also be a discussion of methods for finishing a piece.
A class gives those in attendance a chance to learn from the experts and ask questions. Copies of handouts that provide step-by-step instructions, tips, and other information can be prepared for a function by a brochure printing company.
Factory 3 Makerspace will be offering this in-person introduction to weaving on March 22 and 23. Running from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on each day, it is scheduled for 105 St. James Street in Portland.
