South Portland market open for winter session

The Portland Farmers’ Market gives the public an easy way to support area growers and artisans while purchasing locally grown produce, and its winter session is now up and running.

The Stevens Square Community Center will be the location for the market’s winter run, and the organizers say there will be an assortment of measures in place to prevent the spread of Covid. Masks are required and patrons are reminded to stop by the Market Information Booth to get information, or to purchase Promotional Products featuring its Logo Design.

While many types of produce may not be in season in Maine, the market will still feature greens, root and tuber vegetables, and other produce that can be successfully stored over the winter. A variety of prepared food as well as crafts and art will also be on offer, and items such as honey can be purchased on site as well.

One of the ways the market supports the South Portland and area community is by administering a low-income access program (LIAP) for local households. One initiative is to offer extra fresh produce to those who use SNAP so they can make the assistance stretch even further.

The Portland Winter Market will be in operation on Saturday morning from December 4 until April 23. Anyone who has questions or is interested in applying for temporary vendor permits is asked to visit its website.
