Learning how to survive in the cold can really boost a person’s confidence in themselves, and this will be the focus of a late January activity.
South Portland families will soon be able to add to their survival skillset when they participate in a shelter building workshop coming up in Carter Field. It will introduce the basics of this emergency practice, and the function is on offer free of charge to anyone interested.
The activity will introduce families to “rewilding” and the benefits it offers. As it will take place entirely outdoors, everyone is reminded to dress warmly, and layers may help to keep them toasty warm while they learn and work. Freshly steeped hot pine needle tea will be served to the group as well. It will not be cancelled unless the weather is extremely bad, and while a registration fee is not being charged, donations will be welcomed.
Hosting a class is one of the tools available to an organization hoping to increase an appreciation of nature and the great outdoors in the local community. A poster printing company will be able to help get the word out to anyone who may be interested.
Rewild Maine will be offering this Winter Shelter workshop on Sunday, January 29. Everyone is asked to arrive by no later than 10:00 am.
