Local library to go country

For those of us here in Glen Burnie who love modern country music and bluegrass, the Glen Burnie Regional Library will soon be offering an afternoon of free musical foot-stomping pleasure by presenting Country Current.

This group is the U.S. Navy Band’s Country Bluegrass Ensemble., and has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years. It has played multiple times overseas in countries such as China and Sweden, and at the Grand Ole Opry, as well as at the White House for presidents such as Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and the Bushes.

Routinely, the ensemble plays at bluegrass festivals around the country and prides itself on being the first military band to be a part of the Austin, Texas South by Southwest Music Festival. Although it regularly performs for the higher echelon of navy personnel, it also gives performances for elementary schools, veterans, and at many venues that support U.S. active duty sailors.

Its seven members play everything from banjo, electric and acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, electric and upright basses, to drum, steel and pedal guitar, and dobro. The band always strives to put on an entertaining and family friendly show.

Those who are interested may want to mark their Calendars for Saturday, April 9. The event is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm at the Glen Burnie Regional Library, 1010 Eastway, Glen Burnie. This program is geared to audiences ages eight and up.
