Glen Burnie whets appetites for BBQ

The annual Naptown barBAYq is coming again this year early in May.

Thousands of people, including many from Glen Burnie, are expected to show up to enjoy great food and live music. This will be a KCBS (Kansas City Barbeque Society) sanctioned competition.

The two-day event will begin with the 27 competitors checking in. The first day will end with a competitor meeting.

Grills start heating up during the morning of the second day as teams begin preparing their BBQ specialties. The crowd will be let in at midmorning and the judges will check in.

Teams making chicken BBQ will turn their entries in at noon. At half-hour intervals, other groups will be submitting their food. The ribs entries will be taken to the judges next, followed by the pork ones and finally the brisket. Pork and ribs entries for the People’s Choice awards will be submitted last.

When the People’s Choice Awards BBQ is submitted, the public ticket holders will get to sample each team’s food over a two-hour period. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony. There will also be a kids’ BBQ competition.

Vendors will be on site. Some will be selling goods like origami, jewelry, and caramel goodies, while others will be passing out Promotional Products, coupons and information on remodeling, energy, and outdoor crafts.

The Naptown BarBAYq will be May 5 at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, 1450 Generals Highway, Crownsville.
