Glen Burnie celebrates soul icon

Carole King fans here in Glen Burnie will want to mark their new 2017 Calendars for the upcoming musical ‘Beautiful: the Carole King Story’, which will be coming to Baltimore at the end of January.

King, a Brooklyn girl with a passion for songwriting. wrote her first number one hit ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’ when she was 17. In her twenties, she had a thriving career with her then husband Gary Goffin, played by Jake Epstein. They wrote classics such as ‘One Fine Day’ and ‘I’m Into Something Good’. Over time she rose to a successful solo act when she penned such songs as ‘So Far Away’, ‘It’s Too Late’, and ‘I Feel the Earth Move’.

The play also explores her relationship with her best friends and fellow writers Barry Mann (portrayed by Ben Jacoby) and Cynthia Weil (played by Jessica Keenan Wynn). To date, over 1,000 artists have recorded more than 400 of this influential singer and songwriter’s songs, and she headlined the Hyde Park Festival in London last year at the age of 74.

Music and lyrics are written by Gerry Goffin, Garry Mann, Cynthia Weil and, of course, Carole King. The team won a 2015 Grammy winner for Best Musical Theater Album for this production.

This 2014 Tony Award-nominated bio is slated for January 24th through January 29th, 2017 at the Hippodrome Theater, 12 North Eutaw Street, Baltimore.
