Glen Burnie area celebrates community for the Fourth

Local Independence Day celebrants may wish to head on over to Severna Park’s Independence Day Parade. This year’s theme will be “Celebrating Our CommUNITY.”

Owner of Garr’s Grill, Eddie Conway will be this year’s Grand Marshal. Despite the challenges of last year, his business still found time to raise tens of thousands of dollars for 17 local charities. B

Non-profits and members of Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce can enter the parade free of charge, while all others will pay $250 per entry. Parade entries and floats will be staged at church parking lots along Benfield Road.

The parade will start on Benfield Road, go to Evergreen, and turn left onto Riggs Avenue. It will then turn right onto Baltimore Annapolis and end on Cypress Creek Road.

Parade entries, especially larger groups such as bands, dance troupes, and other marching units, often get some red, white, and blue banner printing done beforehand to introduce themselves to the spectators in true 4th of July style.

Children may enter the decorated bike contest that will run from 9:15 am until 10:00 am, and then join the parade when it reaches Riggs Avenue.

The Independence Day Parade will take place in St. Martin’s-in-the Field, 375 Benfield Road, Severna Park, next Monday, July 5 from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm.
