Celtic celebrations abound around Glen Burnie

St. Patrick’s Day is coming soon and Glen Burnie revellers can enjoy the festivities around the area.

Of course, Baltimore will be holding its St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will be the city’s 67th. Thousands of spectators will be crowding the sidewalks and streets watching thousands more marching, celebrating Irish culture through song, dance, and music.

There will be floats, motorized vehicles, cheerleading units, color guards, equestrian, military, and marching units, as well as ethnic organizations. Bands participating will be string, high school, marching, drum corps, pipe, Fife and Drum, and military units. Banners will lead each unit.

For those athletes who would rather run, the Under Armour KELLY St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock 5K will kick off right before the parade. It will go mostly along the parade route.

The Baltimore St. Patrick’s Day Parade and pre-parade Shamrock 5K are scheduled for this Sunday, March 12. The parade will begin at 2:00 pm and will step off at the Washington Monument. It will then go down Charles Street in downtown Baltimore and end in the Inner Harbor at Market Place at the intersection of Light and Pratt streets.

The 5K will begin at 1:15 pm at the intersection of Mulberry and Charles streets, and will end around 4:15 pm. Both events will be held rain or shine, so participants are reminded to dress sensibly.
