Benson-Hammond House to opens soon

The Ann Arrundell County Historic Society has announced the Benson-Hammond House (Andover Road and Aviation Boulevard, Linthicum) opening day and spring schedule.

On the opening day of this Saturday, March 13, tours of new collections and exhibits will run from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

During the same hours on March 27, and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on March 28, Benson-Hammond House will celebrate Maryland Day by lowering its prices to $1. Guests may take self-guided tours, while docents will be telling tales of life on the farm from the pre-Civil war days to circa 1864.

On April 10 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm, Benson-Hammond House will host a Lavender Tea out on the lawn. While listening to a docent tell about “taking tea” and other social customs of the 1800s, guests can enjoy cookies and lavender tea.

A Spring Book Sale is scheduled for May 1 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Civil War Books from house clean-out will be specially priced, along with some Maryland history tomes. Hardback backs will cost $1 while paperbacks will go for a quarter. The sale will take place at 19 Crain Highway South, at the Glen Burnie Improvement Association Building.

Lastly, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on May 15, the grounds will have a Craft Fair and Spring Flea Market. Over 40 vendors are expected to bring items to brighten up home decors.
