Ethiopian restaurant coming to Bethesda
Ethiopian cuisine offers some very tasty dishes, and now Bethesda residents will have a chance to try it for themselves, when ‘Lucy’ opens its doors.
The restaurant will take over the premises on Cordell Avenue that once housed Grapeseed.
The mastermind behind Lucy is Mekonnen Abraham, who already runs a restaurant called Lucy in Silver Spring. He and his wife have been open in that location for approximately five years.
Abraham says the menu in Bethesda will be similar to the food he serves in Silver Spring, but it will be served differently. He plans to include 10-15 vegan dishes on his Bethesda menu, as well as bring in the main dishes he serves in Silver Spring.
In addition to vegan items, Abraham serves pasta, lamb, fish, and beef dishes in Silver Spring. He notes that the beef, which he gets from a butcher in New Jersey, is preservative-free. He will also serve injera, a tasty flatbread made from teff flour. The item is a staple in the East African nation and a gluten-free option will be available.
Abraham said he hopes to have the Lucy's in Bethesda open sometime in November. The new restaurant will seat about 100, while the Silver Spring location has room for 84.
In order to invite people to try something unfamiliar, businesses like this can include coupons on flyers, which they distribute at the location during the opening.
