Nominations are now open for the “Neat Neighbors” contest that is held each year in Quincy.
The goal of the contest is to recognize residents of the city who maintain their property or yard as part of the effort to make Quincy cleaner and greener. There are 30 people who are selected each year from around the city.
Mayor Thomas Koch said that Quincy is one of the most beautiful and cleanest cities in Massachusetts due largely to its residents who keep up with their properties. He added that many enjoy doing this work and he is impressed with what they do to keep their properties neat and clean. Dave Murphy, Commissioner of Natural Resources, said that this contest not only recognizes those that maintain their properties, but it is hoped that this will encourage others to do the same.
Those who want to nominate a neighbor, friend, or a house that excels at maintaining their property can call or email the city. Such contests are often promoted throughout a city with poster printing and offer more details about the nomination process.
Nominations will be accepted through Labor Day. This is not a competition, so the ones selected are done at random as long as they meet the standards of the contest. The winners of the contest will be announced in September and are awarded a gift certificate of $30 from a local garden center.
