Several special events are being offered at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport over the next few days.
A ranger from the refuge will be leading behind-the-scenes tours using a refuge van, and there will be some stops for special viewing.
The cultural history of the Great Marsh and Plum Island will be presented, along with the native wildlife and the role that refuge management plays in the conservation of these natural resources. Areas that are typically closed to the public will be available for viewing by attendees. Tours are schedule for January 24 and 30, beginning at 1:00 pm.
Also scheduled for this Sunday, January 24, beginning at 1:30 pm is the Kids’ Conservation Cinema. These will be child-friendly films with an environmental or wildlife theme. The film for Sunday will be ‘Charlotte’s Web’.
Another program for children between the ages of three and five is a story hour on Monday, January 25 beginning at 10:00 am. A story about an animal or some other interesting aspect of nature will be read by volunteer from the refuge. Children will be able make a craft related to the story afterwards. Children need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
