Sisters Colleen Roy, a physical therapist, and Meghan Bonnano, a nurse practitioner, recently opened a clothing store in Newburyport in an effort to follow their dream.
The store, called Wheat, features women’s clothing but there are also Books, gifts, candles, jewelry, and other items. Bonnano commented that the store has a little something for everyone.
Items sold in the store show their roots in Newburyport; there are custom-made Mugs, cards, and prints, which feature buildings in the town such as the Custom House and the lighthouse on Plum Island.
The sisters made the decision to open the store based on their research that quality products are recognized by the residents of the town, and they though that something was lacking in other stores selling women’s Apparel in town.
The location of the store has been fortuitous as it is across the street from the busy recently opened restaurant, West Row. The store has extended hours, so people often come out of the restaurant looking to shop.
Chris Johnson of the Greater Newburyport Chamber Commerce said that a store like Wheat is more than welcome in the town, as the sisters are looking to collaborate with other businesses here.
