Newburyport seeks volunteers for winter storms

The Newburyport Snow Angels Program is seeking residents who can shovel snow this upcoming winter.

The program connects volunteers in the community with residents of Newburyport who cannot clear the snow from their driveways and sidewalks due to physical limitations or age. Executive Director of the Newburyport Senior and Community Center, Sara Landry, said:

“The Snow Angels program is a life saver for senior residents with financial and physical limitations.

“Knowing that a Newburyport resident partner is able to help them meet their civic duty is reassuring and certainly eases the burden of homeownership.”

Those who qualify for this program need to be able and willing to shovel snow, but need not be a professional. The work may be as small as clearing just one driveway or walkway after a snowstorm. The program encourages youth groups and sports teams, families and individuals, students in high school or college, local businesses, and friends who like volunteering together to become a Snow Angel.

Snow Angels cater to people who are at least 62 years old or who cannot remove snow due to impairments with physical mobility, and who lack the resources – whether it be family, friends, or the funds – to assist with snow removal.

Flyer printing can be used to spread the word about such programs and provide more details on requirements for assistance and volunteers.
